Whether it’s adjusting to remote work expectations or harnessing the potential of AI, these trends are critical in helping your organization remain agile and resilient.
Workplace Trends to Watch in 2025
In just the last few years, business leaders have had to adjust to major changes. The global pandemic threw almost everyone into remote work, and many companies are returning to the office in 2025. Additionally, AI has rapidly expanded into all areas of work, with most companies recognizing the need to use it to streamline operations and create efficiencies. And, Gen Z has entered the workforce, adding to the intergenerational work dynamic.
While all of these rapid changes can seem overwhelming, you’re not alone. Here’s a glimpse into how your peers are doing business in 2025, focusing on stability, flexibility, and adaptation.
Employees Still Favor Flexible Working Arrangements
Organizations like Amazon, Dell, and The Washington Post attracted widespread attention with strict return-to-office mandates in 2024. Many other large companies weren’t far behind, pushing for employees to work within the traditional office setting.
Our 2025 Salary Guide underscores this move towards in-office work. Our research found that 54% of employees work fully in the office, but hybrid models remain popular. Three days in-office is the most common arrangement, indicating that hybrid setups may be a long-term solution.
Though many employers are moving toward in-office work, they are still prioritizing flexibility. A broader trend is emerging toward tailoring work arrangements to balance productivity, collaboration, and employee satisfaction, marking a shift from rigid schedules to more customized needs.
Our 2025 Salary Guide found that 38% of companies allowed employees to choose in-office days, which emphasizes trust, autonomy, and alignment with personal and team needs in hybrid models. 30% of companies also allow their employees to choose their start/stop times. Additionally, there has been a small increase in companies offering unlimited time off. This signals a trend toward more flexible, employee-centric policies.
Businesses Will Increase AI Dependence
Most companies today recognize the need to integrate AI to maintain a competitive edge. Whether it’s used for data analysis, streamlining operations, or improving customer experience, businesses remain cautiously optimistic about AI’s long-term potential.
Many organizations are prioritizing upskilling to collaborate with AI. At the same time, 15% of companies plan to reallocate roles as AI increases efficiency. However, this does not necessarily mean positions will be eliminated because of increased AI usage. In fact, only 5% of respondents believe AI will lead to direct layoffs, down from 13% in last year’s report.
Intergenerational Challenges Will Continue
Four generations of employees are now in the workforce: Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z. This wide age range allows businesses to capitalize on fresh perspectives and long-term experience. Our 2025 Salary Guide found that 81% of workplaces struggle with differing work ethic views. Younger employees often prioritize flexibility, while older generations value traditional norms.
Additionally, there is a large tech divide between the generations. Younger employees tend to adapt more easily to new tools, while some within the older generations may feel frustrated with emerging technologies. This can create potential barriers to collaboration.
Bridging generational work styles is no small feat, but business leaders can take steps to ease tensions. Investing in technology training programs and flexible work policies can build a culture that values both long-term experience and fresh perspectives.
Expect an Emphasis on Stability
After recent years of uncertainty, our 2025 Salary Guide data points to potential growing economic confidence. 68% of companies maintained their workforce levels in 2024. This suggests stability that may come from favorable conditions in the market or proficiency in staff levels. Of the remaining 32% that did experience workforce reductions, they were minimal. A majority of companies reported a reduction between 1-5%. Many of these companies either avoided layoffs altogether or mitigated the need for layoffs with natural turnover.
